Hello everybody. I recently bought a roland vs-840 to record our band as it can record 4-tracks simultaneously. We're currently only a trio. Anyway, about a week ago, we finished 3 songs that are the best quality we've received so far after much setting up and help. But know I come to the problem that I don't know what to master them onto because the zip disks for the 840 have unreadable files when put onto a computer. I did convert the files, but I can only convert 2 tracks in one file with the br8 converter and anyway, these files are the UNMASTERED versiosn, so levels are somewhat off. THe br8 converter is just a tool for converting individual tracks into wav and then mixing them on your computer. So then I downloaded cakewalk, and I thought, this is way too complicated, there's easier ways to master onto a cd for final listening. Somebody told me to buy an external cd burner (he has an 840 also), I lost touch with him and forgot to aslk him how to hook it up to my roland. I don't have a printer jack, I have output rca jacks and some coaxial digital outputs, but I'm not sure what and how I do this. Do I get maybe a USB to RCA converter? Which slot does it hook into anyway. THe headphone monitor, the master out audio? I'd appreciate any help, thanks a bunch.

PS - I'd also appreciate ANY other suggestions for mastering. Thanks a bunch.

Yo Mat:

First check to see if your Roland unit can transmit your mixed Stereo track to any CD burner?

I once read here that Roland units would only transmit data to a ROLAND burner. I'm not sure if that applies to your Roland Unit.

Once you have mixed and saved your stereo track on the Roland, you should be able to send it out via the RCA plugs TO an outboard CD burner.

You can check with Roland on their site for more details.

I use the Yam 2816 and it has an internal CD burner. But, if I want to put anything on cassette tape, which I do once in a while, it goes out via the RCA plugs.

Happy Spring [well, almost]

i used to have one..i think you need to buy a spdif cable that takes the digital signal out..now wether you want that to be an external cd burner or an spdif card on a computer is up to you. ...total pain in the ass either way!
