Hello, I tried to search for this topic and after a few tries I couldn't find anything. Probably incorrect search criteria...

Anyway, I have everything I need to record all my tracks into a DAW. But the only way I can save a song other than on the laptop is to send it to the laptop's SD card reader. And to be honest, I don't know how to do that. But I would rather burn to a CD anyway. I could just save the files on my laptop as WAV or MP3 files, but I would like to record my music onto a CD. There are a few CD burners I have found on Amazon, but is there a better solution so I could master and burn the finished product from the DAW to CD? Thanks for any replies.

Any DVD/CD burner will work. If your computer doesn't have one, a USB one works just fine. If you don't have burning software on your computer, you can download CDBurner XP. Mix down your songs to stereo wave files. Make sure the files are 44.1K and 16bit, load them in and burn as CD audio. You don't need anything fancy. I bought one on Amazon for $20 and it works perfectly.

I can vouch for CDBurnerXP, which I also use. If Reaper is your DAW, you can also burn CDs directly from within it.

A couple things:
Unless you are using Reaper or Samplitude, you will need to save the mixdown to your hard drive, so you can load the mix into some burning software.

Any USB burner will do.

Sending a mixdown file to the SD card is as easy as moving it to a different folder. Just drag and drop in Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)

You will probably want to get an external hard drive, since you will probably run out of internal hard drive space if you keep recording.

You also want to save your mixes on a hard drive, so the CD isn't the only place they exist.

Thanks everyone! This really helps al lot, I really appreciate the help.

You can burn CDs from Windows Media Player, you don't need any extra software.
I didn't think about that. But I still need an external CD burner, which I would imagine would come with its own software?

Most of them don't come with any software. It's not like the old days when you had to have special drivers and Windows didn't have any native burning ability. I grabbed one of these for using with my laptop. Plugged it in and it worked. No muss, no fuss. Cost me $20.

Ok thanks. Yeah, I'm remembering back when you had to do all the drivers business. Great! It sounds like after the burner purchase I will be good to go, thank for the help.
