Make an offer I can't refuse for this Rode NTK tube mic. It's been used three times. I have more mics than money!

How much do you want for it?

Make me a fair serious offer. You know how that works, you search the internet and find the cheapest price and you will expect me to sell this one cheaper.

Sorry. not interested at that price. I'll just keep it.

The purpose for buying something in a forum like this is for people to find decent gear at a *significantly* reduced price. That would mean dropping your price to about 75% of the cost of a new NTK.

If you're not good with that, then you shouldn't even bother to post the item for sale. Nobody here has a clue whether you used that mic only 3 times or 300 times. But don't expect to get anywhere *near* what you spent on it as a new mic. Any music store would give you $250 tops for that mic, then sell it for about $375.

I also happen to own an NTK. Great mic! A keeper, for sure.

Is that your rule or the rule of the forum?

Bullsh_t Rule Bullsh_t Expectation

If this was a garage sale, the expectation would be 25% of initial price paid.

However, the NTK is a highly rated tube microphone especially for the $499 street price new.

"Nobody here has a clue whether you used that mic only 3 times or 300 times. But don't expect to get anywhere *near* what you spent on it as a new mic."

This person has every right to expect MORE than that and if you have a REAL concern and a REAL interest all you need do is ask.........
"How long have you had it?"
"How many hours of use does it have?"
"Do you smoke in your studio?"
"Send me a photograph of it"
"Will you refund my money if I am not satisfied?"
etc etc etc.

My studio equipment gets treated royally and with great care.
Some of it I have purchased and it has not even been used as yet.
If I wanted to lose money, I guess I'd place it on ebay with no reserve.
I would expect this user group to recognize good equipment and use common sense when buying as well."
Expecting to get something for 25% is insane unless it is totally crapped out.

"How long have you had it?" Less than a year.

"How many hours of use does it have?" Less than 5 hours. It hasn't been out of it's case since a week after I got it.

"Do you smoke in your studio?" ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!

"Send me a photograph of it" Send me your email address and I'll take pictures.

"Will you refund my money if I am not satisfied?" If you pay the freight both ways and it is in the exact same condition when I get it back as it was when I sent it, Yes.

These are reasonable questions that I would expect to get from a professional. I don't like dealing with jerks. So, if I have to remove it from the forum in order to not deal with the JERK, that's what I'll do.

Thanks Bob for the positive comments. I like dealing with Pros.

it's not a "rule" of the forum....it's just what experience of having been around here for a while demonstrates. so if "what usually is" constitutes a trend....well.....i just know what i've seen over the last few years.

"almost new", "practically new", etc., are all still "used". it's not "new in shrinkwrapped box". hate to break it to ya, but Buck's right to an extent--you can't expect anywhere near "new" prices for "used" gear. used once, used 100 times....it's all stil a variation on "used".

i have no interest in the mic, so don't think i've got an ulterior motive. :D i've got a V77 that i'm in love with right now (and FWIW, i think the price that's being asked for on the V77 for sale a couple threads down is a bit high as well--i paid $180 for mine "practically new in box").

i just hate seeing people get bent out of shape b/c someone is lowballing them on gear they paid a lot more money for, and therefore have an over-valued expectation on what they "ought to get" for said gear. FWIW, the GC near me had a used NTK in fantastic shape for $325, and since i've got a good relationship with the gear pimp, i'm SURE i could've talked him down from there.

prw, you seem like a well-meaning guy.....and i suspect that the mic is worth more to you than you're willing to part with it for (or at least what the market here is willing to bear). that's more than fair enough. lord knows my gear is worth more to me than i could get for it.

i'd suggest one of two options...either holding onto it.....or putting it on ebay with a reserve that's right at (or slightly above) your level of "acceptable", and seeing if it sells or not. i'm all about someone getting what they feel is a fair price for their gear....and at the same time i'm all about seeing someone feel like they "scored a deal". the beauty of capitalism is that both people can "win" on any given day.

cheers,
wade

Nobody was expecting to get it for 25% But i was expecting to get it for 60-75% of what the original price was, and thats totally fair. very few things are worth more after youve owned them for a year. I did get a Beautiful Rode ntk off ebay for 310$ with a shockmount.. seeing ashow this one is shockmountless.. 300$ .... have to expect to lose a couple bucks on reselling.

Thanks for the concern Wade. Besides the studio which is for my enjoyment, I also sell equipment like D&R, RME, Samplitude, Toby, Parasound, MXL, Mogami, etc. to pay for the studio and I develop software for a living. I liked the Rode but after hearing the MXL mics I became a dealer. I only used the Rode less than 5 hours. I had the very best intentions of selling a great mic (as close to new as it gets) to someone for a fair price. What really got to me is why some people on these forums have to be jerks. If the guy didn't want to pay much, he should just back off. There is no reason why anyone should get upset because I choose not to drop the price below what I think is a fair price.
It is a good mic and it will neither make or break me to sell it so I will try to pull it off of this forum. I'll also think twice before putting anything of on HR again.

Anyway, thanks again for taking your time to set me straight.
