My question is about placement of microphones when recording vocals.
I bought myself a new NT2-A microphone, I am currently recording my own
vocals for a project. I already have a Rode NT3, which I have used fairly
successfully to capture myself singing different styles of music from mellow
acoustic ballads, to semi-shouted metal vocals.
In the past the NT3 has done a wonderful job of capturing my voice when
the popper stopper is placed about an inch from the microphone and I am
about 6-12 inches from it (I move forward as I go up and down in volume).
Given that the NT2-A has a larger diaphragm than the NT3, does this mean
I should be stepping further back when singing some of the harsher stuff?
Should I, for instance, step back a couple of meters to really capture all
the tone and colour of my voice?
