Hi Everyone! We are looking for a good mic for recording voices, acoustic and classic guitars. Can anyone tell us wich one is better?
We are also looking for a (low budget of course) preamp w/phantom. We´ve heard the Behringher MX802A mixer does the job really well) Since down here the prices are really high, we´ll ask our uncle to bring us the gear (he lives in Rockland, NY).
Does anyone know where to buy this stuff in NY? Do you know the price?

Thank you all...

P.C.

Thank you for making us decide!!!
We will now start to search to stores in NY from down here.
It sounds really cool!!
Hey KaBudokan.... Soon (if you want to) you´d be able to put your songs in our page (here in Argentina there are almost no pages with local "under" artist´s mp3)if you want so, it´s ´going to be free of course... Just let us know... feel free to mail us to zix_records@hotmail.com

Thank you again!!

Hey PC. I haven't heard the NT3, which Axis suggested for acoustic. I do however, own an NT2. I was planning on buying a Rode NT1, until I listened to and compared the NT1 and NT2. The NT2 sounded much better, IMHO. It sounded much warmer and sweeter.

As far as I know, there really isn't much argument of which is the better mic, as the NT2 is "higher up" in the Rode product line and more expensive. They are both large diaphragm condensor mics, but the NT2 is a better mic.

The NT1 I think can be found for about $200-225 US, and the NT2 is about $390 or so. I think the NT3 is about $160. The NT3 is a small diaphraghm condensor.

I've used the NT2 for recording both acoustic guitar and voice. I was very happy with it in both situations. Honestly, it's my first "nice" mic, so I'd be pretty happy with anything ;) , but I've had others say it sounded very good too. I plugged my tunes in another mic thread, so I'll refrain from doing so here. ;) If, however, you do want to hear stuff I recorded with the NT2 let me know, and I'll point you to it. :)

Thank you both for your replies...
We think we´ll try to get a Rode NT2 if that´s the price in NY and if we find a store near our cousin´s place...
KaBudokan, of course we´ll be pleased to hear that recording you said... maybe it´s the last argument we need to get the NT2...

Thank You Guys...

Hey PC. Like I said, when I compared the NT1 and NT2 I decided I definitely wanted to wait a little longer and get the NT2, because I felt it sounded much better. (Though the NT1 sounded best to me in its price range too.)

Go to www.mp3.com/TheShadyNeighbor and there are a few tunes you can hear the NT2 on. "Gladiolas" is only acoustic and vocals, all done with the NT2, so that may be your best bet there. Only thing is, it was recorded through a Joe Meek VC3 Pro Channel, which definitely colors the sound a good amount. Still, it's a nice reference point. The vocals on "Steep" were recorded with the NT2 through a Mackie, which is more transparant. "Half a Song" is also done with the NT2 on vocals and acoustic, though there was more post recording processing done on the guitar track on that one.

Still though, those should give you an idea of the general sound. They were all done with the NT2 in omni mode.

Good luck!!!

(Your uncle can order through mail order if he can't fine the NT2 at a good price locally. $400 is the most he should pay anywhere. I got it for $389.)

Yes PC,
For under $400 the NT2 is an excellent all around mic. I find it is exceptional on male voice and nylon guitars. I haven't tried it on steel string though. I used the NT2 as my main mic when I did tracking for a band called Clyde's Ride. I used it on male and female vocals, bass cabinet, and tenor sax and trumpet. The results are pretty good. You can go to www.mp3.com/clydesride then listen to "Aisles of Smiles". There are several tunes on that site, but that is the one that I did. The mic is a little on the brighter side, but that is usually good for most sources.

Good Luck!
