Mixing and Mastering.
ANyone have any opinions on the newer versions of the NT1 and NT2?
The NT1 has an incerdible deal at the moment. YOu get a free shock mount and a free pop filter all for around $220!

NT2 is around $380.

Where do you see the NT1-A for 220 with the shockmount? I have some NT-3s and a K2 which I very much like... and I just so happen to be considering the NT1-A for a piano vocal accompanied by the K2 on the instrument... thanks!

As for the quality of the NT1-A, it gets some good reviews here, some mixed... primarily you'll find the bad reviews are for the old NT-1 (no 'A' on the end). Perhaps others can comment on the quality of the NT1-A from first-hand experience...

The Rode NT-1a usually sells for $200 domestically (OP is in Scotland) w/ the shockmount (comes in the kit). Musicians Friend has the 1A with the pop filter for $200 shipped.
I think you'll see mixed reviews on both the mics and on which version is better. I've owned 2 NT-1000's, an NT-4, and an NTK and liked them all, but moved on to different things. I recorded for several years with only one NT-1000 as my only decent mic and made what I consider to be some good recordings with it.

Any good?

Cheers Kojdog.
I find that most products get mixed reviews, its hard to know if a mic will be good without getting to try it out I suppose!

They certainly do often get mixed reviews... I'm just used to the difference on this board between products that get a + review for every - one, and then those products that get slandered every way to Tuesday... I suppose I haven't seen much that got all (or even mostly) good reviews :)

Opinions are like a-holes-- there are lots of different ones on this board :D
Bruce Sweiden for example owns and uses K2's and NT-4's (that latter which he called his favorite stereo mic for acoustic guitar in his gearslutz posts!).

Should be a good mic, if you can get a NT 2a, those I use often on vox and acoustic guitar and an occasional cab (though lately I like a ribbon)

I have an NT1-A and like it a lot. Very quiet. Works well (to my taste) on acoustic guitar.

Here's one now!

I still find my NT1 from about 10 years ago to be useful in the studio. I've read countless horrible reviews of 'em, but it works for me.

My all time favorite quote from this board "most of the time it's not the arrow, it's the indian."

Especially with a better arrow (NT1-"A") :p
