I've got Wavelab and have been relatively happy with the compression tools it provides, but for some reason I've been itching for a separate, rack unit.

1. Am I an idiot? Should I just keep using Wavelab?
2. Is the RNC a joke or the real deal? I finally got off the big music dealer path and found them for $175 at mercenary.com. My budget is around $300 i guess, but maybe this REAL NICE COMPRESSOR is all I need! God, I'm still laughing at what that stands for...

The RNC is definitely NO JOKE.... it's real, and it's very good.

Haven't tried RNC myself but have heard on several forums (you can go to digidesign.com and do a search on the 001 forum) that it is every bit as good as anything under 1k in the compressor deparment.

Good luck

RNC is the chips & dip, but remember, you are controlling TWO channels with the ONE set of pots. Depending on your needs you may require more than one unit! DEFINATELY a sweet, sweet comp tho. Why 2
M hasn't bumped that price baffles me, cuz that box rox & can compete with much more expensive comps! Good luck.

You'll spend "significantly" more before you find something as good as the RNC...I know that sounds like marketing BS, but fact is fact. I own other comps, but my RNC's (3) are on "first call" status!
