Right Angle 1/4 question.

I saw this at Partsx and decided to pick a few up, as I'm redoing my pedalboard. I've never used right angled before, but didn't figure it'd be much different than anything else I've tinkered around with.

When I opened it up though, one point is immediately recognizable, but I'm not totally sure where that second lead goes. Anyone have any experience with these? Am I reading too much into it?

The conductor (center wire) goes to the prong that connects to the tip. The shield is soldered onto the shell for a ground.

These used to be the only right-angle phone plugs available. They are not as robust as the Switchcraft type that have the screw-on shell. Neutrik also makes a fairly complex right-angle plug, but it's difficult to get a good solder join to the shell.

I like these a lot. Easy to solder, and they take more abuse than the shell kind.
