Ridiculous Pre-Amp question

Hey guys,

I just bought a M-Audio DMP3 pre-amp to put into my set up. My question is this. On the pre-amp it has phantom power built in but as many of you know you can't turn it on for each channel, it's either on for both or off for both. If I'm running both a condenser and a dynamic mic into the pre-amp will the phantom power hurt the dynamic mic? Thanks for your time.

Nope, you'll be fine. Dynamic mics ignore phantom power. But to be safe, I always make sure all mics are connected before I turn the phantom power on, and I always make sure phantom power is turned off before I disconnect mics.

And BTW that's not a ridiculous question.

Thanks I appriciate it.

I'm kinda new to all this and would hate to ruin a good mic doing something dumb.

I've heard there are some mics (Sennheisers were mentioned) that won't like the phantom power at all. You should check with the manufacturer of the dynamic mic in question. If it appears that it would be adversely affected, you can always get an adapter from markertek.com
