Anyone here use one? I was considering buying one, not so much as I'm short on rhymes, but rather just to maybe expand my vocabulary some more and get some more ideas.

If you do have one, what brand?
Thanks!

Buying one....? How quaint g-man... :laughings:

I use Rhyme Zone too...

Incidentally, there are far less interesting rhymes for happy words than sad ones, in my observation...

"Love from above" is not the way to write a song. Just throwing that out there.

B-Rhymes is a pretty good app for the Droid (and likely iPhone, but I've never looked it up) that I like to have handy when I'm not near a computer.

I remember reading about 20 years ago a biog of Bob Dylan that described him driving across the US of A with "a typewriter and rhyming dictionary". It was right around the time I started multitracking. I'd never heard of such a thing and thought it was a daft idea (mind you, at that period, I said I'd learn every chord and never use a capo ! Then I met Eb and those diminished sustained 11 add 9ths !! ). Some years later the seed had evidently bloomed and I bought one. It sat on my bookshelf for a year or two and one day I decided to look through it and I forced myself to write a song with it. I was rocking my then baby son to sleep and that inspired me to write a song in which I used rhymes from the dictionary. I remember lots of words from it and the one that really stands out is "Kabuki". As I'd use a word, I'd look it up to see what it meant. I was really proud of the song, I still love it. This was about 9 years ago. I never used the rhyming dictionary again and I swapped it earlier this year for Suzi Quatro's autobiography.

I read about the first chapter of that before I had to put it down... I just wanted to slap her... :laughings:

Mind you, I'm not really a bio/autobio reader anyway, but I found it excruciating.

Not even if it involves doves???

Haha good stuff. :D I figured they have a lot of weird words in them, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to check it out.

(pssh who can't play an open Eb chord?!) ;)

I love bio/autobios. I can't wait to read Greg's !
It may take me a few years before I get to Suzi's. I'm near the end of Ian McLagan's at the moment. I do love me some Suzi though. Her songs were wonderfully ridiculous, "48 Crash" !!

Guilty as charged, your honour.

Actually, it was a useful excercize and I'd certainly never knock them. I love Dylan's lyrics and the main reason I swapped it was because I never use it. I'm verbose enough without literary encouragement !

I can do it as a couple of barre chords now and with a capo in various positions, I'm an e flat major ! :p ;) :D

I use RhymeZone and find the 'related words' to be as useful as the rhymes.

I'm old as well as old fashioned. I use the Websters Rhyming Dictionary: the 1980 print of the 1963 edition. I don't use it unless I have to. The one bonus of using it when needed is that it keeps me out of false rhyme territory as that option can be very seductive & is now almost a staple or replacement in rap.
I'm not old fashioned as in refuse to use technology - I actually force my students to use the online etymological dictionary. I just maintain the muse by retaining some rituals/processes.

Cool! Thanks for the input! :drunk:
