Sounds very cool to me. Very pretty at the start, and then it builds into something less traditional. Very nice way of doing it. Excellent sounds. The guitar tone is very good for this. Can't say much more, as it's cool...

I like the arrangement a lot. Very pretty. The electric clean and distorted gtrs might be a little hot... to me the unamplified gtr is the most interesting part and could come out more. The elec gtrs are sometimes a little pitchy, but not too much - it still sounds really good. Nice job.

Thanks for the complements guys. Tim, I was kinda thinking the same thing, the acoustic part was the more intricate (and difficult ) part and it was a shame to bury it. I think I was trying to mix it like the reference recording I had the first time around. Going to try to do round 2 tonight. Thanks for the listens.

Rhapsody - Just listened to the remix - this version is great too - the acoustic really carries nicely throughout the song now - good mixing. The spread is nice too because it allows you to enjoy all the guitar parts equally. Again, excellent playing .....

Enjoyed that so much I thought I'd listen to the others on your soundclick.

Canon - more excellent playing here. Found the mix leaning slightly left which is no big deal - maybe I'm losing my hearing lol - listening on headphones.
Perfect Year - steel string guitar versus the nylon string - completely different tones between the two - cool. More excellent playing again. This one sits more centered. Oooh some vocals in this one - cool they are good. The last vocal line was too left for me but again that's through headphones maybe it wouldn't be the same on speakers just IMHO.
What are you using to mike the guitars? Preamp/mixer/mics/placement. It's nice and clean....

Eh? Should be just one steel string git in this one . I think this one was a MXL603s on the 12th fret with a Oktava MK319 over the shoulder pointed at the bridge. Both into the Octane. I think I used a Groove Tubes GT66 on the vox, but it could have been the MK319 again. This was done around the same time as Canon, and I just did some mods on my MK319 so I was using it a lot. Thanks for the listens and compliments, I appreciate it.

Sorry - I was thinking out loud (tol) - commmenting on how the previous song was played on a classical versus this one played on steel string. That probably sounded pretty silly (lol) ..... again great tunes....Thanks for the update on the mics etc. good to know for future reference. That's one of the best things about this board. You get to hear some killer tunes and get some insight into the setup and equipment.

Oh I get it now... between the two pieces. I don't own a nylon string though They were two different guitars though and picked versus fingerstyle, and Rhapsody was done using a a ribbon mic (through a VTB-1 pre) and MK319 in a M-S configuration about 2 ft way and centered where the neck meets the body.
I know what you mean though, I've learned so many techniques and neat tricks from this site, especially the PMC's I feel like I should be paying membership.

i will not repeat the positive views already expressed here that i share.
here are some of my thoughts:

too much distortion on the lead voice. with a gentle touch, that kind of sustain can be had at much lower distortion levels and therefore a much less compressed, more dynamic tone. i feel like i hear much more amp (or modeler) than i do player.

there is a lot of conflict in the mids between the acoustic and the electric. try some subtractive eq in there. i would first try pulling some lower mids out of the acoustic, some upper mids out of the lead, see if that helps make things a bit clearer.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I'm noticing the conflict now that you mention it. I boosted the AC a little bit after some suggestions but didn't consider it's effect on the freq balance of the overall mix.
I kinda like the tone and amount of overdrive for the dist elec, though. I guess I was always envisioning a big screaming lead contrasting the acoustic part.
How's the classical album coming along? I'd be interested in a copy when it's available.

Edit - went back and listened to Canon again - man that's some great playing. I can hear a the steel strings more now as I listen. I think part of it is that I rarely hear such fingerstyle artistry on a steel string - usually it's a classical nylon string.

Haha, no worries. Reminds me of this one PMC when I complimented someone on how good they made the snare sound, and he was like "actually, that's a drumagog sample" LOL.

I like the new version a bit better. I like the reverb on the lead which adds to the sense of realism. I also like that the intro is louder. lends weight.
