Reverb with lowest CPU use for tracking

Any recommendations for a reverb that I can use ITB during tracking with X-tra minimal latency. I don't care if it sounds like ass. I just need something for the '80's guys who demand it.:)
 
Seriously, I need a reverb plug that won't cause the bad stuff while tracking in Cubase 6. Roomworks SE seems to be the lightest that I have, tho it is hitting the limits of useable latency and CPU usage. I just need a reverb lite!

Start tracking in 10 hrs. Help me Dave!!!
 
I know. I would but my cheap interface only has 2 outs separate from the main mix. I'm already using them for second monitor mix for drummer. I really need to get my shiznit better. I don't play well with limitations. I suppose I could just throw one of those $12 rack units I have on the whole headphone mix! LOL!

I bet Dave would say to 'Think out of the box'.

I need a miracle! Or just a low latency reverb..............
 
Right.

I usually set up an outboard reverb only on my cue mix from either the tape deck or DAW return (which ever I'm using to track to). That cue mix is done via my console. This is why I think it's not a bad idea to have even a small/mediocre OTB mixer, even if you ultimately do everything ITB.

Ha! Even more latency! They don't open til 11 on Saturday here.

Like these doods are really gonna show up at 8 anyway...
 
I use a TC powercore card

I really like TC reverbs and always get good comments on the space I make in mixes..theyre pretty cheap for the express ones, around $100 on fleabay..but they are long PCI cards..your PC has to be able to take them..on the bonus side theres quite a few plug ins with it..the 1176 comp is definitely usable

CPU is negligible with DSP cards

Does that card interact with your DAW??? I don't understand... What in Dave's name is going on here?

Why not just run a single separate stereo bus dedicated to reverb and use it like an external machine? It would be the next step from doing it with hardware. Even something like Altiverb isn't that processor intensive if you only use one insert of it.

Why is latency such a big issue btw? If it's just the reverb that's latent, within reason, it won't matter very much because you can usually just reduce the pre-delay to compensate.

That is of course unless you're using something with inbuilt latency compensation like pro tools 9. (which will then make everything else latent too?)

Ah ha! You led me to an obvious answer. 'Constrain Delay Compensation'!

Cubase btw. Because of the latency caused by the plugin, I had to lower the buffer to a point where CPU was running too high. I think this will work for me.

No problem Jim ... think out side the box. The TC electronics and eventide I have is spdif if that is any help for in the future.
 
I like to say 'spdif'! spdif spdif spdft sptftdspstfd. Hard to say fast.

That actually sounds like something I may move to. First thing, I will probably upgrade to an interface that can handle outboard gear better. Just gotta settle for now I suppose.

yup, it has vst's that use the dsp power of the card rather than CPU power...its the same with UAD cards, which I also use...there is some CPU usage but its a fraction of what a native vst uses

Can you only use the VSTs made for that specific card? you just drop them in your VST folder like any other VST and they run mainly on the card instead of the CPU - so you couldn't just relegate your existing plug-in VSTs to use the new card right?

no its only their own and some third party ones specifically made for the card

I think the quality is better than native vst's but that might just be my mind/ears playing tricks..I do know that I rarely worry about how many compressors, reverbs, or EQs I stick on a tune...and some tunes can have 50 tracks running on a dual core...saying that its maxing out now and Ive ordered a quad, but Ill still use the cards
 
forgot to say the TC card even comes with a sh101 synth, tubeflex guitar amp sim, and vocal channel as well as all the normal tools.....it would cover all the basic needs of a mix and has four dsp chips on the one card...not cutting edge but pretty handy
