Hey guys - I've got myself a MIDI to serial port cable that I used ages ago to do snyth stuff in Cubase but as I was getting it out of my drawer I yanked on it and tore the wires out of the serial port end.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix it??

It's this one that I have..... CMIDI-101. I'd post a link but as its my first post I'm not allowed.

I've searched everywhere for some wiring diagrams so that I can solder it back together but I've had no luck.

Anyone got any ideas!?

Im pretty poor at the moment and so £20 for a USB would be lovely but I just can't afford that right now!

Many thanks

I did a Google search because there are many kinds of midi to serial port cables and what I found for the cmidi 101 did not look good.

First of all you'd have to find a way to crack into the DB15 connector, then fix it without doing too much damage, then put it back together again.

It's possible that once you got the connector open there would be a nice set of color coded wires with some corresponding scraps hanging onto the ripped connections, but the chances of that are slim. And you'd need to be a fair expert with a soldering iron to get in between those pins.

If I had a similar problem I would save both time and frustration and buy a new USB or cmidi 101 cable.

Hey - thanks for that.

Yeah i've opened it up and there are different wires, all 6 of em and then 6 nice little holes to go through....

Are they color coded or is there any way to tell which wire goes where?

If so, it's just a matter of doing a little soldering and putting the connector back together.

If not, as I said before you might as well discard it and buy a new one. Such is our disposable society...

ha silly I know, but I mega broke and cant even afford that much!!

There's no way of telling which goes where which is a shame so im stumped. I was hoping that someone would have one, one that they could open and basically say "put the orange one in ere, the blue one in here"! etc...
