Remote Control for recording??

Hi everyone.

I wasn't sure where to post this question, so hopefully it's not too out of place in this forum.

I'm wondering if there is such a thing as a remote control for recording oneself. Like, for instance, if your recording area was a fair distance from your computer. I'm trying to get as far away from my noisy computer as possible but it would be kinda hard (not to mention silly) to run from my computer to my mic every time. I seem to remember some mention somewhere of a USB remote or something like that. Anyone know of this? Anyone have one?

If not, i guess i'll just have to put a good shield between me and my computer.

Thanx.

Oh, i use protools on a PC, if that matters

Buy extension cables and put your computer out of the room...I've got mine right outside my door and I can't hear anything.

A wireless keyboard will work too, in the same room.

I bought a cheap 10ft extension cord for my computer keyboard. I take the keyboard with me into the room I use to record vocals. I can't see the monitor from where I record, but it's typically not a problem since I am only using one or two hot keys.

Thanks!

Those are all really cool ideas :). But i'm just wondering, can i use a wireless keyboard with a laptop? Probably a dumb question, huh? The extension cable might be my best (and cheapest) bet. I spotted a port at the back of my laptop for a mouse/keyboard (my current mouse is USB). And that Tranzport thingy looks really cool :D ...perfect actually, except that i only really need the basic controls like record, stop, play, rew/fwd. The other controls are definitely useful but i was hoping to find something cheaper with just the basic controls. But maybe when i can afford it cuz that would be really cool to have.

Cheers.

tranzport thingy is pretty cool. im gonna get one, my boss just got one and it's pretty cool and conveinent.

Look for eithernet KVM extenders.

Or

If you have a laptop, and your main control room computer has windows XP pro you can do a remote desktop. This is where you can remotely take control of another computer via IP address. Wireless would be the likely method, having absolutely no cables involved.

I'm trying to decide myself what to do. If you are working alone you can't be everywhere.

I've also looked a LCD monitors that are racked. Not very cheap.

I;ve also seen these rack drawers that pull out and have an LCD monitor pop up and the keyboard mouse under it. You could then tuck it away and have it in a roll around rack with a KVM extender.

Hope this helps

I wheel this thing around my room to wherever I'm working. Works a treat for me and much cheaper than the tranzport.

Very cool room indeed.

What type of a device is that?

Model?

I think a laptop might be just a BIT pricier than the Tranzport
;)

Yeah but that's not a laptop... it's an office chair with the seat hacked off and a flat screen monitor and wireless keyboard attached using everyday office stationary... bluetack, cellotape, a little gaffa tape.

Of course I already had the flat screen and the wireless keyboard/mouse so that made it cheaper. So far its pretty solid no accidents and I've been using it for a few months. It goes anywhere in the room I go and has a few more functions that the Tranzport has ;)

oh wow, now that's smart...sorry about that. It just looks like a laptop at first glance.
cool idea.

Yeah, absolutely cool idea. But, unfortunately, i don't have a flat screen...or a wireless keyboard/mouse...or even an extra chair to dismantle ;)...but i think that's the most creative thing i've seen here so far.
