I have an old Roberts 1967 reel to reel 4 track (left & right, 2 inputs each), and i was wondering if they're still usefull. The heads seem to be good, it can run at 7 1/2(?) IPS, and the tape looks twice as wide as casette. I have a FOstex XR-7 which has served me well, but im contemplating wether to learn more about the reel to reel.

hehe, are Frank Senatra(original box) reels worth anything these days?

As log as everything on your reel to reel is in working order, you would be much better off than cassette. You want to make sure that the heads are aligned and clean and that all the electronics are working correctly. The sound quality should be much better than cassette.

it looks most like the akai771, but theres a place to plug in a mic and a radio(?) signal (2 inputs for each channel)for each left and right channels. its all tube, i got the original service manuals, and operation manuals. i noticed the speed is a bit slow, so im thinking there may be too much oil on the belt that turns the trake up reel (grandpa oiled it in 95')im scared to screw with it though
