Okay! I just setup my dad old Akai 202d-ss reel to reel. Its quadrophonic....4 tracks-o-surround sound heaven. I got the Pioneer receiver too:p

I just ordered some blank tape and am going to try recording soon. What do you guys think of this model....or simular models?
It doesn't support recording one track, then go back and record another, but thats cool....I really need to get away from that anyways......

I am going to probably start out doing one mic on my acoustic, and one on my voice. But technically I can use four channels. Granted no one outside of my home will be able to listen to it in that means, but thats their loss........

I need an analog mixer now so I can mic my friends drums, my guitar, voice, etc and mix them properly. (I am not too fond of left speaker voice, right speaker guitar) I don't want to use my 1680 because that has A/D converters that will drop the sound to 20 bits, then convert it back to analog....even then its only 2 tracks output.

So my question is..............I don't know what my question is.........just, any suggestions on things to try with this new marvel of technology?

I am posting this in another forum or two for different views. Guitarist and engineers.

I think if you used it to record some improvised guitar riffs and licks with long delay(you know like from 2-10 seconds) the quadraphonic would enhance the kaliedescopic effect.

How come your posting the same thing all over the place? Not that I care, I'm just posting something so I can get my post couint up enough to get an avatar.:D

Because no one goes in the ANALOG ONLY forum, I don't know how many people go to the other stuff forum in the equipment part, and the guitar and gear section has people who post in one, but not the other....and I KNOW some of them have to have some experience with stuff.

Hey, at least I am not spamming a guitar for sale, or some other crap.

Is it possible to use this as a tape delay for my 1680?

....didn't think so......:(

Oh.

Well its true:)

Well, they are not there as often. I just got this thing. You know how the kid in you comes out sometimes........you need things NOW.

I used to have an old Akai 3-head cassette deck. I could take the line out from ch-1 and send it to the line in of ch-2. Using the mic input and adjusting the recording levels I could get the most brilliant echo effects from it. :)

I could adjust the volume controls so that the echo was the same volume as the input or so that the echo was reducing in volume.

Best of all I could have the echos gaining in volume till it started feeding back. :D Ah the impetuosity of youth.

I sold the bugger 'cause it kept shedding the drive belt.

Ya guy at work today was telling me about the vast amount of routing possibilities and that finding a manual on Ebay is worth the money. I new there was some hidden stuff, but wow..........I am gonna have to check that out.

So do I input in track 1, line out to the mic in of track 3, and adjust the gain?

Wouldn't the gain already be at the proper level?

I could send that into my Roland then huh? Nice.:D

The Akai R/R probably wouldn't work as a tape delay.

The Akai cassette deck I mentioned had seperate heads for recording and replay. They were about 1/4" apart. So the playback came after the recording. Because of the relatively slow speed of the tape it could be used as a tape delay.

My guess is with your R/R the recording & replay heads are one and the same and arraged vertically in line. I think if you patched line out to line in you just double up the signal - so your front & rear signals would be the same.

Sorry to rain on your parade Locus :(

Correct...........I can double my signal. But I still have tape reverse.;)
