I've been trying to reach them, and have sent email with no response, which doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling. I want to know if these are out of the factory in Tula, or did they roll their own? There's also some MK-101 and MK-102 LDC heads over at OktavaUSA.com that look interesting. I confirmed that those are RTT, same as the LOMO heads. I wonder if the Red Lollipop head is a Lomo with a Red badge, for $129 less than from the Sound Room?

Hi everyone!
Robert, where have you been sending your email? I've not recieved anything from you. If anyone has questions, you're welcome to email me, heather at vintagemicrophone dot com...or simply fill out a contact form from the website.

As far as the Oktava head; they, along with all our capsules, are hand built in Latvia. This capsule is a design completely of its own.

Thanks!

That's funny Heather, several phone call attempts over a couple of weeks, no email answer, but it took only 26 minutes to reach you via this board? Cool! Thanks for responding. So, is the diaphram 33mm on your Oktava Lollipop head? Are they in stock? How long from order is recieved till thay ship, and where do they ship from? Are they returnable if un-satisfactory?
Thanks.

LOL, that does seem........ odd.

The diaphragm measures 1 inch and they are in stock. When you place an order it will go out within 24 hours and they ship from our headquarters in Southern California. Here's a link describing our return policy:

Havent tried those, but I did order 3 of These

and These

for Decca tree. Ive been using DPA 4006s, but want to try something different, and am tired of renting M50s, which are expensive and noisy.

Hi Robert,

Minor correction: The Oktava MK-101 and MK-102 heads were designed and built in Tula, Russia by Oktava - one of a very small number of microphone manufactures worldwide who have the skill and equipment to build and test original-design (not copied) condenser capsules.

RTT - Russian Transducer Technology, is the business name of Michael Vladimirsky. While Vladimirsky has a very informative web site about the history of Russian microphones and does occaisionally sell used Russian mics on eBay, RTT does not itself manufacture condenser microphone capsules but rather has microphone capsules manufactured for sale as "RTT-LOMO" products. The LOMO factory microphone manufacturing line was disassembled in the early 1990's so the new capsules should properly be called "LOMO-inspired designs re-manufactured for sale as RTT LOMO products".

The Oktava MK-101 head uses the same capsule well-loved for its "vintage, soft top" sound as found in the highly-successful Oktava MK-219/319 mics. The MK-102 head uses a recently designed, all-brass backplate capsule that provides an "airier" top end while retaining the authoritave Russian midrange presence Oktava capsules are known for.

As a side note, it is a testiment to superiority of the circuit topology found in the Oktava MK-012 that other companies have begun manufacturing capsule heads to be used with the Oktava MK-012 body.

best, MJ
