My band is a three peice pop-punk or power pop band(our influences include Blink 182, Sum41, Greenday, New Found Glory, Sugarcult and others) from Maryland. We want to start getting gigs. The problem is none of us drive yet (but i will in three months). My question is are there any places where a band like mine can play in maryland or southern pennsylvania even in Virginia? Around here the norm seems to be screamO or EmO bands. There's not really a place for us it feels. We just want to play shows and get fans. We are in the process of writing and recording songs(in my guitarists basement) we have let some of our friends family and brother bands(who usually play out of town shows becuase they are older) and we seem to get positive feed back. We are also working on getting a website up and we are just trying to blow up and seriously get famous. I'm not going to lie to you but thats what we ant to do. Another question i have is should we really try to give out our demo to fans or try to get signed to a label with them? I'm sure the first one isn't going to get us anywhere but as we grow our second one maybe even our third should get us a contract. Maybe you'll hear of me and my band "Call Us Anything" in the future. THANX KIDS! -BassBoyCUA-

i would say make sure you always have a demo to give to fans at shows. Most labels won't accept unsolicated mail. So until you get some kind of managment or requests for demos theres no use in wasting the stamp money to send them out to labels.

as far as places to play in virginia.. try in Charlottesville, The Outback Lodge, Kokapellies, and Tokyo Rose. for a list of the clubs around here go to www.c-ville.com and go to the calander page.

Finding places to play when you are young can be a real pain. Teen clubs and juice bars are out there but they don't advertise much and probably wont pay much either, but they are exposure and a good place to get valuable experience at playing before an audience. Your goal of stardom is to be admired but break it down into small steps at a time, it's not very likely that a producer/promoter will grab you and wisk you to the top of the charts. Keep up your drive, practice and play hard, play anywhere and everywhere you can, and never give up, (that producer might be at your next gig.) Oh yeah, one more thing, be prepaired to put more into it than you ever expect to get out of it, sooner or later someone will notice.

blow up and get famous so i'll have to hear your damn song all day on the radio. you'll be owned.

good luck
