New at recording- tascam us-1800, can u run output thru the interface? Or do you always have to use computer sound card to play recorded tracks?

There should be a headphone jack on the interface; also, do you have monitor speakers?

The interface is supposed to replace your internal soundcard for the purposes of recording, so you should run your output to it. It will have much higher quality sound AD/DA converters than your crappy PC soundcard.

Yes, just look at the back of the interface...it has jacks that say "output", therefore that's where your run your output. There are also additional line-out jacks where you can run separate monitor/headphone mixes out or to run a previously record track in your daw to a piece of outboard gear like a compressor and then back into one of the line inputs and print to a new track in your daw.

Good luck!
