I'll need more information from you in order to help you.

What kind of machine is this? A desktop or laptop?
Is it a G3 or a G4?

How much RAM and disk space do you have?

What Mac OS version are you running and do you have the iLife suite?

What types of things do you intend to record?

And on a different note, do you know where to capitalize words and add spaces between sentences?

your computer should be able to record decently for someone not looking for high quality recordings. 400mhz was alot not too long ago, its amazing how far computers have come in the past 10 years and how much cheaper they are. how much ram do you have? you probly just cant record alot of tracks with your "tecnologie"

5-im planning on recording music with 2 guitars,1 bass,1 drum and vocals..thats it, noting fancy.I will use programs to do the bass and drums
6-well im french so sorry if im hard to understand..

TX for the help!

I started out recording on a lowly MacIIci and Bias Peak years ago, so your G3 >can< do the job. Just stay away from high-powered programs with lots of bells and whistles aimed at high-end machines.

CubaseSE is $99 and comes with both Mac and PC versions in the same box.

can u record something decent with that?and i many songs i could record?

I second the Cubase Se option. You need to find out wht OS version your running. Look under the apple menu "about this computer". That will give you more info to get started with.

Sorry, didn't notice the language barrier. ;)
What does the G3 look like? Is it beige in color? (Off-white plastic) or is it Blue and White with handles and a side door.

You can find out what OS you're running by going under the Apple menu in the upper left hand corner, and selecting About This Mac or About this Computer, etc.

Cubase is a nice piece of software, but you'll need to be running some flavor of Mac OS X.
I'm going to guess that this G3 is a Blue and White one, so you can go up to the most current Mac OS, Tiger/10.4, but you'll need a lot of disk space and RAM.

The G3s use PC100 RAM and regular IDE hard drives, but get one under 137GB.

Just a note, I tried installing Tiger on my girlfriends G3 450, and it was a no go. I read a few places saying it has something to do with firewire/DVD support or something. Or I may have screwed the instalation up, but I installed it on my G4 and ibook previously, so I doubt it.

Just thought I would through that out there.

If anyone knows if there is a problem enlighten me

You will have to have native firewire for Tiger install. No others are suported
unless you wish to deal with XPostFacto software in which case I wish you luck. And yes you will have to have a DVD drive as the OS 10.4 CD installer is 16 CDs. I hope you can get this figured out. You still haven't told us which operating system your currently running.

Yes, exactly. All G3s starting with the Blue and White and later have 2 Firewire ports built in.

Since it's a 400mhz G3, I'll assume it's a Blue and White, unless it was upgraded, etc. And yeah, it'd need a DVD-ROM to install Tiger.

You are correct sir. Did the Blue and Whites have the same limitation of installing OSX on the first 8 gb partition that the Beige's did? If so that would be an install killer without reformatting and partitioning. Ah- the good old days. I used my 266mhz beige for lots of recording using the old free Pro Tools in OS9. Good machines- it still runs.
Sorry got a little off topic. ;)

hi again, its a G3 that have andles and that can be lock on the side to open it.i think its more green than blue but then again i dont have it with me right now.Whats the tiger thing? And can i download this software cubase??

No, the 8 gig firmware limitation was fixed in New World hardware, including the B&W.

Not sure how Tiger would perform on it. No, I actually am. I ran it for a little while on my Pismo, and it's very similar hardware. Same GPU, same CPU speed (though a different model, I think). Was quite usable. I didn't do any recording, though. :D

BTW, if you buy Tiger, you can get a set of CDs for installing on older hardware through the media exchange program. At last check, it was $9.95 plus tax. Slightly cheaper than a DVD-ROM drive, but I'd probably go with the DVD-ROM drive, given a choice. :D

help plz..
I seriously suggest going to apple.com and researching the minimum facts about the Macintosh. We cannot help you concerning audio recording when you have no working knowledge of the computer system. And no- you cannot download Cubase! You must purchase it.
I am not trying to be harsh, but you need to do some the homework yourself.
Peace.

Even better, goto http://www.lowendmac.com/ and look your machine up. Then you'll find all kinds of info on what you machine is capable of as far as OS upgrades then you know where your at.
