Recording Voice directly to CD

I'm a hypnotherapist and would like to record a hypnotic session directly to CD as the session is going on. If possible along with my voice/mic input I'd like to record background music along with my voice.

Is there recording equipment to record a session directly to CD?

I would appreciate any advice you may have.

You can't really record direct to CD - you can record to hard drive and then create a CD from this.

The Alesis Masterlink (ML9600) is an excellent stand-alone unit for precisely this purpose.

How about a stand alone CD Burner?

I have a stand alone CD player/CD burner (JVC). It is considered a stereo component, and therefore requires "audio" CDR's for recording.

It has a mic input jack that will allow for recording directly to CD and also has a CD/mic mix feature that will let you combine the sound from the CD player with the sound recorded from the mic.

Also, it is possible to use a mixer feeding into the line inputs on the burner to record direct to disc. Makes very clear live in-the-room recordings.

You could get a standalone stereo type cd burner- a good mic (maybe small diaphram condensor or 2) and i nice preamp / small mixer (a little mackie or Spirit) and you could pay your music on a boom box / whatever you have in the room that normally plays music. It'll take some experimentation to get mic placement / music levels right but if you have a room you do this in you could just leave it set up all the time once your happy. This isnt the most high tech / elaborate way to accomplish but might serve your purpose if you are just trying to document.

The alternative would be to do seperate tracks onto the computer or SIAB and then mix down to 2 track (stereo) cd. You'd probably want a mic on you for your voice, a mic int he room for background subjects noises / whatever, and then record a seperate track of music- could be in the room- could be inserted after the fact. This method would probably yield better results by virtue of it gives you the most control of the mix.

You've got options- just depends on how nice of a final product you want and how much time/ money you're willing to spend to accomplish it.

The TASCAM CDRW-5000 was around long before the masterlink.

And it does exactly what Ailish wants.

Records direct to CDR.

You'll need some preamp(s) for the mic(s) but that is it. And you don't need to use those overpriced audio CDRs. Any good quality CDR will work.

Yup - I stand corrected..... except that I'm guessing the Masterlink will seriously outperform any of those units, sonically....

It all depends on the level of quality Ailish is looking for, I guess...
