Recording using omni spaced pair?

I'm sure that since Harveys recommendation on the Behringers that many of you have hunted down info on recording using spaced omni pairs for overheads. This info is probably already in the 2 monster threads, if so, I guess I'll hunt through all 400 pages of it.
If not, does anyone know the proper techniques for recording drums with omnis, and if they differ from cardioids at all. I'm assuming an xy wouldnt work quite right. I'm thinking this might work with the method that I have listed in the drums forum.
Anyone know any cool techniques with omnis, then?

Something I've done and it works pretty well is a Jecklin disc with omni's. You can rig one up with mouse pads.

Basicly, it's a disc shaped baffle with mic clips on each side of it with omni condensors slightly angled outwards. You get a the wide pickup pattern of the omni's and the disc baffle offers a little sepperation for a good stereo image. Basicly.
I've made one a couple of years back out of plywood and mouse pads and three mic clips; one on either side of the disc to hold the mics and one at the bottom to attach it to a stand. I'll see if I can dig it out and post a picture of it.

Hmmm, seems like it would leave a hole in the stereo picture.
I might buy a book so that I can be Yoda when I'm Harveys age.

I just recorded room ambiance using a pair of omnis and a Jecklin disk (2 phono records coated in lamb's wool--just like the original), and it's a pretty cool way of picking a nice stereo image...
