I plan to have two SDC as overheads when recording drums, and also mics underneath the two rack toms. Since both the OH mics and under mics will capture the toms, would the phasing of the OH have to be reversed so as not to get a thin sound?

What kind of music are you doing? You may be able to use the two overheads in a setup and not use any tom mics at all. Just mic the snare and kick. But if you need total control just mic everything up and test it to listen for problems. Make adjustments as necessary and don't worry about phase problems. All multiple mic'd drum kits are gonna have phase interactions/cancellation that really just add to the sound of the kit. As far as micing inside the toms, I've never tried it but have read about it. I'm not sure how the tom mics and OH's facing eachother like that would cooperate but just test it and make adjustments as necessary.

Lol. Post a clip of this when you get it recorded. It sounds like a squirrely idea.
