What's up guys? I make both hip hop and rock tracks and have been doing so for a little while and am finally ready to start adding vocals and recording complete songs. I use my MPC 2000xl for all sequencing and play some guitar and bass over some tracks. I also have a couple of midi sound modules. I also need the ability to record songs with just guitar, bass, and drums (played through my MPC). I have a 24 channel old Soundtrac mixing board that I have been using but want to get into recording directly into the computer. I have had several different recommendations from getting a soundcard with 8 inputs (to match the 8 outputs from my MPC) and some form of software to getting a firewire connected interface. At the several different music stores I have been to people have been telling me to go with the Digidesign 002 Rack w/ Pro Tools LE. It has 8 inputs and 4 mic inputs. Has anyone used this setup? Is Pro Tools as good as some believe it to be? What I really want is to do all of my midi sequencing on the MPC and record, mix,eq,in the computer as well as record vocals, guitars, turntable work (scratching), etc. Any suggestions? Better options? If I use my computer to mix can I get rid of my mixing board ?Sorry for the long post and thanks for checking it out :)

I have the Digi 002 rack, I love Pro Tools, great software you will hear some good and bad reviews about it on this board, I also use Cubase SE and a Motu 884 interface If it is in your budget I would go for the Pro Tools, You will find that in more commercial studios than other recording solutions, and keep the mixer you never know when you will need it.
