Recording songs (programs?) on VF16

I'm new to my VF16 and digital recording in general. I tried recording my band the other day using 8 direct tracks. By my understanding, I can make a new program, record all the tracks, and have a song. Then I can make a new program, record all the tracks, and have another song. I tried to do this and when I would go back to load a previous program I couldn't hear anything on it. What am I doing wrong? Did I lose all the stuff we recorded? I know it worked at the time cause I would record it, we'd listen to it back, then I'd go to the end of the program and hit new program and record the next song.
