Recording on seperate tracks

why when i record the 1st instrument in the first track,and then i record the 2nd instrument in the second track
both instruments are recorded in the 2nd track? how can i record every single instrument in their
own track ?
i have used many difrent programs but all behave the same.
I know i can be able to do that because i used to do it few months back all of a sudden it wont let me do it
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP?
 
It's probably your sound card's mixer recording setting. Instead of being "line in" or "mic" you have "what u hear" selected.

go to start -> run: sndvol32.exe
go to properties, choose adjust volume for "recording" and make sure the right source is chosen.

There are numerous ways to get to the volume mixer on the PC, control panel, start -> programs -> accessories and it'll either be right there, or in the entertainment folder.

Does any one know how to connect hi fi equilizer to a mixer?

I have a Beringer 1622 FX PRO mixer hooked as follows
Sub out to computer in
Computer out to an input of mixer
Mixer control room out to Main Amplifier

The Equilizer i will be using is a normal hi fi EQ that is suposed to be hooked on a hifi looping it through a tape deck and then on to the amp.
If i connect it this way and hook the tape deck on the mixer it creates lot of intefeerance if i connect it direct to amp it still has intefeerance.
Does any one know if it is in fact possible to hook a normal hi fi EQ to mixer?
