Recording on a PC - dumb question

Can I record LINE IN to one track and AUX IN ( via breakout box ) to another track at the same time with REAPER ?
Or is there a Windows limitation ( i.e. can only record from one source )
Would this work ?

I am not too familiar with REAPER yet. But I chose it because it can do MIDI tracks + audio. Any REAPER users can comment or post links to good resources.

If you're trying to use Reaper on a stock PC you won't get very far.

You will need some kind of audio/midi interface if you want to take full advantage of the audio and midi capabilities Reaper offers.

It's been kind of unstable for me, so I have used it some --- but what appeals to me is that Cockos have given it the ability to work with both VST and DX plugins. And the fact that the beta versions up 'til now have been free doesn't hurt.

Just to add to my last post --- I've spent the last hour quite pleasantly sniffing around the videos available @ the Cockos web site.

There are forums there that list the soundcards that Reaper will work with and, in combination with ASIO4all apparently you CAN use a stock soundcard quite effectively.

I've also been playing with Reaper v0.985 and it seems quite stable...

I have a SB PCI-128. Good for me in the last 5+ years. Usually have midi set as GS.
My PC has 256 MB RAM --- been only using this one for 2 weeks. Noticing the speed from a P2 to P3.

Gonna try KX and ASIO4ALL and see how that works for me
Saw that my card was mentioned, so maybe there is some form of hope.

I'm hoping to just have some fun recording when I get spare time. If it turns out, great. If not, I'm where I always was. No sweat.
As a hobby, MIDI and MP3 Backing Tracks on PC have been a blessing, as you can jam anytime, and don't need to have a buddy drop over, etc
