I have a PC at home dedicated to recording, and a laptop also set up strictly for recording, both using Cubase. Both machines run XP SP2, but the laptop is dual core and the PC is a P4. If I copy songs done on the laptop onto the PC to work on them, or the other way around, is there any way that the different frequencies each machine runs at will affect the way Cubase runs and sycnhronizes audio and MIDI? Or any other problems with using 2 machines

As long as you copy everything. Including audio folders, etc. it should work fine. One computer might be faster than the other. Or able to handle bigger projects. But the should be able to work on both. I have done this with pro tools... It's been awhile since I've used cubase. But I believe it's the same idea.

cool, thanks. I found on a previous PC that weird things would happen in Cubase. I would hear my guitar even though I hadn't selected a track to record it on, which would go away when I clicked on the Device setup dropdown, then it would work as expected. Or sometimes I've had to go and just click on the volume of the M-Audio master fader in the M-Audio Control panel to hear anything at all. I don't know if it's the hardware or just stupid Cubase glitches

Stupid Cubase glitches? What version of Cubase are you using?

It doesn't sound like there should be any issues relating to the computer hardware. Your laptop may have a newer CPU, but a lot of laptop hardware is optimized for power usage, weight, and temperature considerations. So their may not be much difference in their speeds, hard to say without knowing more details.
