After years of recording on analog 4-track, I've taken the plunge into the world of digital recording with Pro Tools. It all seems fairly simple, except one thing - this is my first experience with MIDI, and I can't figure it out to save my life! So I seek the advice of those much wiser than I in these matters.

I'm trying to record drum loops off of BFD Xpansion. I create a new audio track and a new MIDI track. I set up BFD as an insert on my audio track and as the MIDI output on the MIDI track. I've tried record enabling the audio track, the MIDI track, or both at the same time. I play the loop by my MIDI keyboard (a Casio WK-3000) with both MIDI In and Out cables connected. I hear everything just fine when I play it. I just can't get anything to record.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what...any suggestions?

If it makes a difference, I'm using Pro Tools LE 7, on a PC - 3 GHZ processor speed, 2 GB RAM. Any help is appreciated!

use the Instrument track in Pro Tools... their is no need any longer to set up your Aux then midi tracks bussing it over and so on...that's why they created the Instruments track in 7... far easier... just open BFD in a send on your instrument track, set your midi controller on that track and the output as BFD... record enable.. and SHAZZAM!!!... when you play back you have your drums

Wouldn't that be insert BFD on an "insert" not a send if you're using Instrument tracks?

That's how my instrument tracks work.
