using a good LDC in a nice, dead, acoustically treated vocal booth ~ male hip hop vocals.

any advice for for mic placement? compression ratios / settings?

Can never be sure on what compression settings to use. Try aiming hte mic up and then try aiming it down and see which one wokrs better for the vocalist. Some nasal qualities will either become more noticable or less.

If you are in a treated room it should b e pretty easy to get a good sound with just trying out differnet mics for the vocalist.

I'm 90% sure i compressed with a C-1 (i usually use it for vocals)

Then i hit it with This free (donation) e.q.

I'm sure you could get this sound if not better with an AT4050, and a MiniMP.
you can get the eq free (with donation) HERE. I did use a Waves compressor, but i only compressed to give the vocals constant presence, and that job can be done with just about any plugin comp.
The Aardvark is a discontinued item, but you might find the same converter quality in a Delta44. I have never used this unit, but i have heard good thing about it.
A signal chain for less than 1,500 for clean phat rap vocals.
you can also check http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/, They often have good b-stock gear.

i angled the mic upside down, and had the vocalist aim his voice about a 1/2 in below the mic. (to prevent any unwanted sibilance)

Place the mic in front of the vocalist. That usually works best. Get a good pop filter, and have their mouth 3-6" away from the mic to get a nice fat prox effect going. Then, compress the bejeesus out of it. Throw a bit o verb and some eventide on there and call it good.
