Recording guitar directly onto computer, adding distortion IN the computer?

I can record acoustic stuff fine into my computer. However, when it comes to recording distortion, it sounds really effy and it doesn't give you the BANG that you find in other popular punk bands.

I was wondering if I could record direct box (I think that's directly into the computer) with the guitar sounding acoustic and THEN adding the distortion somewhere, somehow?

If it helps, I have Adobe Audition and Acid Pro.

Thanks!

Ehh .... Your best bet is to get the sound you want playing through an amp and capture that sound with a decent mic/preamp combination.
Other than that, you could look into a decent guitar DI box.
Most of the really good guitar/amp simulation plugins cost a good chunk of change.
You could give SimulAnalog Guitar Suite a try (Free). Provided you can run VST plugins. If not you would need a VST wrapper .

Thanks for posting crankz1!!

I have Acid Pro and Adobe Audition, but I don't know the exact folder to put the VST plugins of "SimulAnalog Guitar Suite" OR how to make use of them *once* inside the program. Thanks soo much!!

Another great plugin for adding distortion on an acoustic track is REVOLVER. But it's as good as expensive...
