I'm a little confused about this preamp business. If we have a drumkit miced up with 7 mics(e602 - kick, 4 sm57s - toms/snare, and 2 overheads - not sure what kind), do we NEED a each one of those mics going into a preamp? What happens without the preamp? Would a mixer with built in preamps work okay, or would it make a big enough difference to rent an eight channel rack preamp of some sort?
