I'm going to be recording a demo and I have about a year to get the equipment and learn. I play black metal so the as you might know the end result does not have to be crystal clear but i'd still like some decent results. Basically what i'm looking for is to be able to record instruments and vocals into a computer instead of a 4 track. As you may know this brings up many problems such as distortion of the signal by crappy soundcards(I have a soundblaster live).
Basically, is there a way to be able to do quality recordings through a computer. Soundcards, mixers? Please tell me how I can achieve this and still maintain the quality of recording through a 4 track. I've done both before and I much prefer mixing and recording to a computer. I'd say my budget is about 500$ but if that's unrealistic i'd be willing to go over.
