What do you all think is the best way in recording bass guitar. Miking the amp or DI it? Whenever I mic the amp, it always comes out pretty good except one problem, the volume is too low but whenever I DI it, the volume is good but the bass doesn't sound as good as opposed to miking the amp. Should I just amplify the bass amp track or try to tweak the DI one?

Use both the DI and the miced signal and mix to taste.

Thanks I never thought of that. When any of you have effects on bass or guitar, do you add them to the track or do you hook up an effect box while you are recording?

you can do it either way..but just remember, when you record an effect, you cant take it off, you'll have to retrack if you want anything changed. If you add it later, you have the luxry of chaning the effect at will.

I usually add effects after the fact..that gives the most flexibility. but if you know what and how you want it effected, theres no poblem with doing it that way.
