Recording bass with guitar amp?

wouldn't it be easier to just record the bass regular then duplicate the track and apply a distortion plug-in? =o

It's a tube amp man!, plugins are great but for distortion, I prefer the warmth of a real thing. By the ways, mic goes thru a "toob" preamp before the audio interface.

there's a lot of little things that you have to factor in that can make the track stand out more than if you just dup it and add a dist plug.. Gives character and such haha..

Did you do any phase aligning or did you leave it as is?

I'm not sure about phase issues... I thought that it happened when using more than one mic. In this case, bass goes to a direct box and the signal is split in two, one to the guitar amp and the other to the audio interface.

Oh, almost forgot to say that I'm not a bassist so I use a pick instead of my fingers, I think that contributes to the agressive sound.

well from the sound you got i dont think it really needs any tweeking but since you're using a mic on the cab then there will be a slight time delay between the direct signal and the miced signal.. may cause it to be phasey but from the sound i heard i wouldn't worry too much about it.

Phase is all about the time relationship between two audio signals. If one is arriving at the interface a few miliseconds before the other it can cause certain frequencies to be affected whether that be two mics, or one mic and a direct line
