Has anyone used the Bass Pod or Bass Pod Pro to record Bass?
I mean in an album time situation, not just a home demo.

I just ordered one since it was a great deal. Im wondering if we should use the actual cab and the pod as the preamp, or just forget micing the cab (swr bass cab) and just use the amp modeling and go direct into the board.

Just be careful, I once recorded a bassist who had a POD, he dialed up an Ampeg sim preset that he used to use, and plugged in direct, everything sounded smooth and sweet through the nearfields, great.
I took the resulting recording to a soundcheck a couple days after and played it back through an EAW system just to check it...........MUTHAF**K!! ..... the subs practically jumped into the air !! As it turns out even though the POD's knobs looked centred, he had about 20 db of bass boosted at about 40Hz!!

After that, even though I don't own a POD, I downloaded a Manual!! LOL.

The Bass POD has two outputs that can be used simultaneously. One is the amp and cabinet simulation, and the other is a clean direct out. That direct out can bypass the effects if you want it to.....very versatile.

I record using both outputs because I like the raw direct signal too for added definition. It gives me more flexibilty when mixing. Other amp modelers that don't have that feature are just toys.:) Wait until you see how musical and useful the compressor is on the Bass POD. You can compress really hard and it will not pump or breath. Let us know how you like it.

Recording Vocals with bass pod compression?

We just tried it out last night (bass pod pro) in a quick practice session. Our bass player's tone impoved about 100%. He had a nice cabinet, (swr) but crappy Head. Also, its amazing how it sounded through the board (we record to a cdr just quick and dirty for practice). Its great to skip the whole direct box, and just plug the mic into XLR of the pod as if you are micing it, and leave the effects etc on in live mode, and have the cab on for us. It really sounded great on the cd.

Another question:

Have any of you used the bass pod pro for vocals? using the compression on the non bass setting? I have been told its amazing (simulates the LA-2A Compression or whatever it is)
We are going to try this... Any advice?

Thanks,
-Brian

RNC

If you are looking for a great compressor for anything, especially your vocals then the RNC is what you want. It is a steal at 175 and does wonders ffor bass di. Does the POD PRO have an insert? Peter

What do you mean by insert?

It has xlr and quarter inch inputs. It also lets you turn off all the bass stuff and just use the compression, so I heard its good for vocals etc.

it's nice that the pod pro has some versatility.

i've never seen a bass with an xlr output.

the Bass POD Pro does have an Effects Loop...

The Bass POD Pro does not have XLR Inputs. It has Guitar Level and Line Level In (both 1/4 inch Jacks). The XLR connectors marked DI are outputs for DI into the Board...

try a SanAmp Bass Driver DI in front of a Bass POD...awesome...

Yeah, I meant outputs. It would be kind of cool to have XLR outputs on a bass or guitar. I think Van Halen did that...

It would stop the problems of the bolt always loosening on my guitar.

there are basses with XLR outputs, active basses.

vox, even on bass, its wise to filter out stuff around 40hz because of what you just said!!
