Flamingo!
Just a quickie.

There is one main vocalist and then 4 others join in with harmonies during the chorus. How should I record them?

One person per track?
All in one track?
Two people for each track and pan them left and right?
A mix of 2 & 3?

What do ya guys think?

Are you recording them live?

I would aim to get each vocal on a separate track.

Are they going to be singing live in the studio, ie all together at the same time ? And will be there be instruments ? Live ? Pre-recorded ?

I'm wondering this myself. I would think that they will want to sing live. Just a guitar, banjo, and fiddle. Live.

There are a number of possibilities you can consider:

1 Single omni LDC with them all gathered around, as in old radio style.

2 Set up a stereo pair of mikes

3 Put mikes on everything

My preference is 3.

Or why not have 1 and 3? Kind of like using omni as main mic and then add other close mic'd microphones. Or use nr.3's as main mics and add some room ambiance by adding omni.
