a stack comuter mic would be fine. that's the one Ashanti uses

You should probably check out www.gearslutz.com for that. Between Thrillfactor, eque of a few others, you should get the real skinny. My guess is that you want a real silky and clean chain with a bit of high end extension. With that I'd say Something like a Sony 800G into an Avalon VT737 pre or a focusrite pre (not the platinum range). Though, you never said what mics you currently have or are willing to buy.
