Recommended mics for vocals

Glad littledog is here pointing-out the obvious, in case people aren't following... I don't have the personality to do so.

By the way, I was able to stay away from 3630... First compressor I bought was the first dbx 266 instead. That thing was good for what it was, but it was outta here within a year! The 160X I have now sorta reminds me of it... But much better... Great for the "dbx sound" when you don't have the money for the "real dbx sound", the 160.

PS: All of this DOES help you get a better vocal sound; although the 160X wouldn't be my first recommendation on vocals! Try an RNC!

Why don't you check out my music and see if my ideas still suck. Thanks.

I'd be happy to. PM me and I'll send you an address where you can mail me a CD. If you can make the C1000 sound good, I'm betting you're a hell of an engineer! :p

a c-1000 and a bbe....oh my..yes i know theres a lot to be said for 'budget' mics and believe me i own several...dont get me wrong, i LOVE akg mics...one of em does not happen to be a c-1000....i spent a bit of time with one trying to get it to sound decent and then sit in a mix on several different instruments....ya gotts ta admit that they look cool....dont be offended mr/mrs cast-o-shadows, nobody here wants to flame you for your selections(well almost nobody)....but ya gotta be careful what ya say sounds great...theres lots of folks on here with a ton of experience that they cant teach at one of those re-kord-in schools....and im sure everyone on here thats poo-poohing that statement about those mics has the expeiences to back up what they're saying...and i would bet they've all had exposure to that particular mic...well like littledog says, if you can make that piece-o-crap sound great then you da man....just dont be offended...by the way i've heard marshall mics @less than $99 blow that akg away...and idont like them either...

Now, can I interest you in buying a barely used Alesis 3630? I think you'd really love the sound...

Ok, now that's just MEAN.

When I was at Guitar Center many years ago before knew anything about this stuff I was looking at this 3630, it sure looked cool with lots of lights. When I asked about it, the salesperson kind of got this look on his face like he'd eaten a terd. Anyway he helped me out and I was able to dodge that bullet. Some of us haven't been so lucky...

Oh and by the way COS, I like to consider myself more of an egomaniac than a snob.

It really has nothing to do with being a snob. I use Oktava MC012's as drum overheads, in spite of their cost. I've got no problem with using cheap gear. I just don't like crappy gear. There's a difference.

But remember: one guy's crappy gear is someone else's favorite. Although, to be more accurate, in this case it's probably more like 19 guys' crappy gear is one guys favorite.
