Hi all,
I need to make an av show and have bought myself a neat little recorder called a zoom H2. This is to record dialogue and sound effects for a flight in a microlight (in the US you call them ultralight aircraft).
I think the best way for me to do this is to record the dialogue in good quality at home, then process it afterwards to make it sound like an intercom (and some of it like an airband radio conversation with an air traffic controller). I naively assumed that there would be some sort of standard effect filters out there that I could just 'apply' to my sound file and it would process it to sound how I want it to.
Also I need to mix this processed dialogue file with the sound effects of the engine starting up, running in the cruise and probably wind noise too. I realise that something like Audacity would do it, but is there anything simpler, as I don't really have the time at the moment to get under the skin of a big program?
Many thanks
Mike

Use audacity. Its the best bit of free kit around for this kind of thing. Its a pretty easy program to use, wont take more than an hour of learning to really get to grips with it.

Go and find some tutorials. Google searches for "Audacity tutorials" normally pulls something up. Good luck.

If you really really cant find any help, someone on the forum might look kindly upon you and help you out :) so long as its a simple mix

Thanks waffleness - I've downloaded audacity now and you are right it does look simple. I also downloaded the free effects plug-ins but there's nothing remotely like what I need. They all seem to be designed to make a poor sound better and I need some effects filters to do the opposite. How do I chop the topmost and bottom-most frequencies off ... I can't even see how to do that

OMG I cant believe I forgot Reaper!

Jason is correct, reaper is good as well, and will probably have what you need. Same concept as audacity.

reaper > pro tools

i left pro tools for reaper.

i just can't see myself ever wanting to get out of reaper
