I had a Lucid D/A for a while. Personally I liked it better than the converters in the Apogee "mini" rang. Benchmark, Mytek and Lavry also make good 2 channel converters in the price range listed

The Benchmark unit in that price range is the D to A model, the DAC-1. Their A to D unit is more expensive. I have the DAC-1 by the way and it sounds very very good.
If there is a Lavry AD in that approximately $1,200 price range, I personally would have it at the top of my list.
The 2192 is considerably more expensive than that. And I think that even used they go for a lot more than $1,200.
I would advise you to stay away from a used Waves L2, just in case you were considering it. I don't think the conversion is up to most of the other converters being discussed here. I owned two L2's at different times, and both times I had to swap out the units multiple times to get one that worked right--and I'm talking buying new from a dealer, not used. Once I got one that was solid, it worked great. they are just a little fragile though in my experience.

Take a look at the mytek, used all around for mastering conversion. They have a 96 and a 192 model I think

Keep in mind with the Myteks, the Lavry's, Apogge etc... there are different converters in different price ranges. With the reputable companies that make converters in the affordable ones are pretty nice. It is important top remember though that Lavry for instance makes some two channel units in the $1k range. They also make some in the $4k or so range. When you see that some mastering studio uses Lavry for instance, you might want to consider that they may be using the really expensive Lavry's
