Hey guys, I just dowloaded Reaper and have been recording tracks for a song. Each subsequent track I record for the song includes all the previous tracks. In other words, the new track duplicates the tracks before it, so each new track sounds increasingly echoey and cluttered--it does make the vocals sound cool though, but certain percussion becomes increasingly shrill and too high pitched. I would mute the other tracks when recording a new track, but I need to hear the previous tracks to know when to start singing, playing, etc. Does anybody know how to be able to listen to the other tracks while recording a new track without them being doubled?

check your input on tracks its probably recording the main st. out. What interface do you have, if any?

Look on the Sound control panel..... recording preferences.... for anything labeled "What You Hear" and UNCHECK it.

Very common with built-in and Creative soundcards.

In which case you also need the following information:

Still using a built-in soundcard?? Unfortunately, those are made with less than 40cents worth of chips for beeps, boops and light gaming (not to mention cheapness for the manufacturer) and NOT quality music production.

#1 Rule of Recording: You MUST replace the built-in soundcard.

Here's a good guide and suggestions: http://www.tweakheadz.com/soundcards_for_the_home_studio.htm
