Real-Time Effects as You Record?

I'm using CakeWalk's Home Studio 2002, and some of you may know that it comes with a few effects (delay, reverb, Amp Sim Lite, etc.). I'd like to be able to hear these effects before I start recording, but for some reason I'm not able to. I'm having to record with a dull clean sound, and then put the effects on it after the fact. Isn't there a way to hear the effects to get your tone right, before you start recording?

*This is just for direct-in recording, using plug-ins. My heart's really into micing an amp...

First off......what soundcard? What drivers do you have?

You'll need to have low latency to do this.

And if you do have low latency... Options -> Audio -> Input Monitoring tab and select your soundcard's driver.

I've got an Audiophile 24/96. I'll try the above suggestion and see if it works.

Thanks...

There's no doubt that it works. :)

But your latency needs to be under 10 ms according to Cakewalk (I would say under 5 ms).

You should have 2000 or XP as your OS to take advantage of the wdm drivers.

It worked! I didn't seem to have a problem with latency. I'll check it out though just to make sure. Thanks...

No problem!

With an Audiophile 2496 the latency should be low enough for Input Monitoring to be "good". :)
