I just bought the RCA cables to connect my mixer to my soundcard, but I just realized the cable has a sheild around the plug part, and the line-in on my soundcard doesn't have a place for the sheild to insert. would it be possible to just bend back the sheild, or do I have to find a cable without the shelid? if so, please tell me where to find one. I haven't seen any.

The only place the cable can plug into my computer right now would be the coaxial jacks, but those wouldn't work for recording, right? thanks.

just thinking......

i'll bet that the sound card on your computer takes a 1/8 stereo plug rather than a rca if you are describing it right.

is this a pro card, with numerous in's and out's

is the coaxial a s/pdif input or output.....

you might want to look into it.

Possible: Yes.
A good idea: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO and NO.

If you did do it, you'd not only ruin a good cable, but you'd get crappy mono sound, the cable would fall out all the time, and you'd get a good bit o' interferance.

Assuming it's a 1/8" inch in:

You need a Dual RCA to Stereo 1/8" connector.
That should work fine for you, and is quite inexpensive.

ok, that's what I thought. I'm just sorta frustrated cause this will be the third different dual RCA to mono RCA connector in the last two days. The first one had two male connectors, but I need two female; the second one, like I said, has a sheild.

That's because you are NOT going RCA to RCA. You are going RCA to a 1/8" stereo phone plug.

You probably need something like this:

assuming your mixer has RCA females on it.

EDIT: Whoops, just re-read your post. You need FEMALES?? It would be very unusual for a mixer to have MALE RCA's on it. Normally the mixer will have female RCA's and the sound card will have a female 1/8 plug. Therefore you would need a male to male cable. Are you sure about needing female. AND are you sure it's RCA?

Here's a picture of an RCA connector.

Just to complete the picture (pun intended), here's a photo of a 1/8" miniplug.

sorry about the confusion. no, the mixer has female plugs, but I bought a 25 foot rca cable that has two male plugs to two male plugs. so i needed two female to 1/8" stereo phone plug. anyway, it's all sorted out now and i'm ready to rock.
