Rattle in my 57?

I have a 57 that I have had for about 3 years and it recently developed a "rattle" in it...as in when you shake it, it sounds like there is something loose underneath the grill.

It still works fine but obviously something is wrong with it, or in it.

Anyone know how to remove the top on it? You can't unscrew the top like you can on a 58...any clues?

The grill on a 57 is held on by a clip that creates an interference fit between the grill, and the capsule body. If the grill is loose the best thing to do is put some pieces of tape, or spots of glue on it to hold it in place. Make sure that you don't cover the area btween the plastic grill, and the mic body or you'll turn it into an omni. I've taken one apart, and there's really no better way to tighten 'em up. You risk damaging the hair-like wires that run to the diaphram when you take 'em apart. If that happens you'll likely end up with a dead 57 unless you're good at soldering hairs, and have a lot of patience.

The grill isn't loose, neither is the black casing around it. If I put my finger on it to hold it in place and then shake it, I can still hear the rattle. It sounds like there is something underneath the grill.

What I need is someone that can tell me how to remove the top of the mic without damaging it. I'm afraid to pull the top off...and it doesn't seem to be able to be unscrewed. What is the correct way to do this?

Send Harvey, Flatpicker, or Marik a PM... I bet they know how. Good luck.
