I have seen a set of 10.5" tape reels that are simmilar
For mesureing torque from take up reel to supply reel.
Dunno if torque is really that big of an issue.
Just wondering if it would be worth while to bid on id. (bit late now as auction finished).
Ah well
Still got my 2 revox machines and they are still going strong. Although i need some 24v VU metre lamps, a complete set of tape guides, and maybe a new set of heads for my PR99 apart from that all good
They come in handy if you need to check the back torque of the supply motor or the torque of the take up motor. Otherwise you will have to find a set of scales (similar to a fish scale) to use.
There already was something like that built in the 50's or 60's. I forgot the name of it. I saw one on ebay from some antique electronics vendor guy. He had never seen one until he aquired that one. I suppose the "cassettes" would be next to impossible to find
I guess one would need some plexiglass. And some good epoxy/glue. I kinda doubt that it would end up snapping in like a cassette, but it would look very interesting. It would be neat for a novelty.
You would have to flip the tape over on the reel so that the magnetic side would face the outside. What in the hell would actually play this? I have no idea. I guess if you modified a r2r deck it would be possible. Talk about a one of a kind!!
