Someone should point him to this thread .... or will it spoil all the fun ? :D ;)

...ain't it grand to laugh at the expense of a person possibly in need of a psychiatrist ? ;) ... crazy folk don't know they're nuts, you know ... ;) .... that could explain the seller's psychotic replies! :D :D

Nobody is laughing at the sellers expense purposfully. They're only humored by the content of his public aution. If he realized how absurd his listing was he would edit it lickety-split. Sure he is clinical, but that is no excuse for trying to rip-off the stable-minded and financially able.

I'm not weathy enough to absorb the mentally unstable sellers misdeeds, but maybe we can all do it together. Then we can all share in the partially functional ribbon mic of our dreams (if it arrives at all), and record a special song in his, or hers, or theirs commemoration. :)

How exactly is this 'crazy' individual is trying to rip-off a stable and able one?
The items are cool. they may or may not be functional (like anything on e-bay in general anyway, you always take a chance there). The description is 'crazy'. If it's done purposely, then it's kind of funny... hmmm.. maybe not, maybe wasteful... it does not matter really. If it's done 'naturally', then the person IS in some sort of mental condition... so what? a sick is a sick. The items are still pretty cool. The seller has 4 negs and about 400 pos feedback. That's not so bad :)
*************

Looking at the images it looks more like a stage mic then 1 that would be used in a home studio
the mics look just like what the are: large, caged and beautifully-ugly RA1142, which ,according to 'history' is a redesigned WE 639B... not for "home use", but rather for the movie industry ... we are talking here about what? 1940s?... that's a long way back. If those mics are actually functional - they are SUPER cool items. but if not, then they are still damn cool with a starting bid of freaking 15 bucks :D

references to check:
12 mics that made history
history of the microphone (scroll down to 1939)
See and (actually hear) 639A and 639B HERE
HERE: Looks like you can buy one from a 'stable' seller for $1350 with NBC flag and (I'd guess) in fully working order

Right. Personally I'd not be hesitant at all buying from this seller, despite some rather "speed" induced behavior. :D

He's got very good feedback (from buyers) and he's really "anal" about a lot of things and my favorite is the packing bit. What's bad about that ? :D ;)

The description (and answers) are pretty fun to read though... :D

I'm extremely surpised that the seller's feedback score is somewhat respectable with lines like "But the one thing I do reserve is to reserve the right to refuse service to the inept at any given time."
He's expecting more from buyers than he does from himself.

I'm instantly turned off by auctions like this where the seller appears to have been burned in the past, so they over-compensate and expect the worst from buyers. I bet I'm not alone in this either. The seller is just shooting himself in the foot and will suffer a lower ending bid.

It is his auction, so if he wishes to be a creepy paranoid amped-up mental patient he has that right. Ultimately he will be the one who pays though.

Godspeed to quantumtp.

Nice links Zee. :)

One more thing. I think the said seller should come over here to HR where he would be right at home. :D

Really?? I don't see that at all. I don't know about the other forums, but this forum at least has alot of helpful, knowledgable people. Just don't see the similarity.

Agreed. I've been the the recipient of much "sound" sound advice here at HR. It was just a good-natured jab at myself, and I'll be the first to say that I'm mildly off. Quantumtp and I might have been separated at birth. :D
