I use an Edirol FA-66 for my inputs and playback with Logic. It sounds pretty great and I never have noise issues. It's a very clean signal with a mic or guitar plugged straight in.

So what's the problem you ask? Well I'm renting a $2000 mic preamp(Chandler TG2) to see if it sounds like $2000. I'm plugging my bass straight in to the this mic pre and then into the Edirol FA-66 but when i do i can only hear FM radio and it's sooooo loud. It happens with any mic i've tried as well. I use all the same cables with or without the TG2. When I take the TG2 out of the chain it sounds fine. Does anyone have any tips for getting rid of Radio noise? Any advice would help.

Wrap the cable in a ferrite ring, close to the pre. I think you can still get them at electronics stores.
Also, try a different cable.

if all else fails just groove out to the clear channel approved nonmusic!

hehehe

From your description it sounds like there is something wrong with the TG-2. Call the rental company. Radio Frequency Interferance is some spooky shit at the best of times... it could be something as easy as a cold solder joint in the unit [which is often caused in rental gear by all the shipping/cartage]... or it could be a funky capacitor... or it could be your cabling [but I doubt that if it only happens with the TG-2].

FWIW, while I absolutely love my TG-2 for all kinds of stuff... I've found that especially for Bass DI stuff the Great River MP-2NV [or ME-1NV] has it way over the TG-2... then again I did sit around for I dunno how long with a P-bass working on making sure the DI sounded in the Great River was EXACTLY what I wanted. As always, YMMV.

Peace.
