Rack?

Ok, I know I know, just when you thought all the noob questions were asked, here comes another

I am getting the M-Audio Tampa and the M-Audio Delta 1010. Both are supposed to go in a rack. If I get a rack something like this, how will I know if my hardware will fit in there? I mean is hardware the same length so that it fits in the rack properly? Not too long or short?

Yep, all racks are 19" across. Just make sure the rack you want has enough spaces to fit your current and future gear purchaces. One thing you should come to terms with as a noob is that your conquests for more gear will never stop so get a rack that will be able to handle whatever your future holds.

It looks like that rack should do me perfect since I only have 2 items I will be placing there and it appears there is room for 11 or 12 things there and I cant imagine filling it up, but you never know right?

I said that too one time, Now I've got about 25 spaces worth of rack gear (minus spaces for air flow) and more rack gear than I have actual rack space lol

also, note that most of the gear you buy takes up 2-4 units of rack space. So although it says it's a 12 space unit, it'll probably only support an average of 6 units.

Ahh, good point Benny, thanks. I still think I will be fine since I dont see anything else I will get in the near future (that is until I read and learn more, lol...)

So, leave air gaps in between units?

Air gaps are HIGHLY recommended, unless you've got the rack unit set up where there is a lot of air flow, but that wouldn't be usually the case. Say, the rack unit is like, near a door so there's nothing to the side of it, you'll be fine if you NEED to use the air gaps for another rack peice.

You might think about getting a rack on wheels, it sure makes moving it easier.

I only leave a space between the PCs and power amp. Everything else is small and the back of the rack is open and not right up against anything so I think they're ok.
