Hi guys, cables confuse me sometimes

I've got a pair of powered studio monitors, Behringer B2031A, and I want to run them from the output of my little Behringer mixing desk.

The manual from the monitors tells me to use 1/4" TRS or XLR cables (I'll be using 1/4" TRS as the desk only has jack outputs). The outputs of the desk are unbalanced, so it is cool to use normal TRS cables from the unbalanced outputs of the mixer into the balanced inputs of the speakers?

Thanks :)

Yes but the problem will be that it's not going to be balanced

From mixer to monitor you'll be fine with just about any decent cables that make sound when you plug them in. It's a line level signal and not going very far. Remember in most "audio" situations single-ended RCA cables fill this role, as in just about every sound system in every living room in the world with no worries. Sure balanced/TRS/XLR are "better" connections but for a line level signal from your mixer to your monitors you don't need it.

yep ..... for short cable runs being balanced isn't super important.

This could be the end of civilization as we know it! :D

Balanced cables are so last year... :laughings:

OP - I have similar monitors and just use guitar patch leads from my recording desk... I mean it's only going 2 feet each way... and, as they're brightly coloured (blue and green) they add to the ambience of the studio area in amongst the morass of blackness...

Existential question - can you create real rock music using coloured cables????

I thought colored cables were for "making beats"?? :D

I'm ahead of my time... I wonder if anyone's invented gold-coloured bling outer casing and made special cables just for da beat makerz...
